Proverbs 7 – Another Warning

Today’s study falls on the 7th day of the month,  the number 7 is the number of completeness and perfection both physically and spiritually, biblical speaking of course.

Theme: Another Warning about Immoral Women

Lesson #1: Expected actions needed to avoid Immoral Women

  • Follow my advice, my son (v.1)
  • Always treasure my commands (v.1)
  • Obey my commands and live! (v.2)
  • Guard my instructions as you guard your own eyes (v.2)
  • Tie them on your fingers as a reminder (v.3)
  • Write them deep within your heart (v.3)
  • Love wisdom like a sister (v.4)
  • Make insight a beloved member of your family (v.4)
  • Let them (Wisdom & Insight) protect you from an affair with an immoral woman (v.5)
  • Let them (Wisdom & Insight) protect you from listening to the flattery of a promiscuous woman(P.W.) (v.5)
  • Don’t be naïve (v.7)
  • Don’t lack common sense (v.7)
  • Don’t be strolling down the path by her (P.W.) house (v.8)
  • Listen to me, my sons and pay attention to my words (v.24)
  • Don’t let your hearts stray away toward her(P.W.) (v.25)
  • Don’t wander down her(P.W.) wayward path (v.25)
  • Beware strolling pass her(P.W.) house at twilight, in the evening as deep darkness fell (v.8, 9)

  • Understand that she(P.W.) is brash, a rebellious type, never content to stay at home (v.11)
  • Beware she(P.W.) is often in the streets and markets, soliciting at every corner (v.12)
  • Don’t let her throw her arms around you and refuse to let her kiss you (v.13)
  • Beware of her brazen look (v.13)
  • Don’t believe her when she says, “I came out to find you, and here you are!” (15)
  • Don’t listen to any talk of her bed and its beautiful blankets with colored sheets of Egyptian linen (v.16)
  • Don’t listen to any talk of how she has perfumed her bed with myrrh, aloes, and cinnamon (v.17)
  • Don’t listen to her when she says, “Come, let’s drink our fill of love until morning (v.18)
  • Beware or Run! when she says, “Let’s enjoy each other’s caresses, for my husband is not home.” (v.18, 19)
  • Don’t believe her when she says, My husband is away on a long trip.  He has taken a wallet full of money with him and won’t return until later this month.” (v.19, 20)
  • Don’t let her seduce you with pretty speech and entice you with here flattery (v.21)
  • Don’t be so quick to follow her like an ox going to the slaughter (v.22)
  • Don’t be like a stag caught in a trap, awaiting the arrow that would pierce its heart (v.22)
  • Don’t be like a bird flying into a snare, little knowing it would cost him his life (v.23)

Resolutions:

Lesson #2: Positive outcomes of listening to the above

  • Wisdom will be like a sister to you (v.4)
  • Insight will become a beloved member of your family (v.4)
  • They will protect you from an affair with an immoral woman (v.5)
  • They will keep you from listening to the flattery of a promiscuous woman (v.5)

Lesson #3: Negative outcomes of not listening to the above 

  • You will be naïve (v.7)
  • You will lack common sense (v.7)
  • You will get to close to the immoral woman’s house (v.8)
  • Twilight will help to snag you in the trap of the immoral woman (v.9)
  • You will be capture by the seductively dressed and sly of heart woman that approaches you (v.10)
  • You will fall for the lie, “you’re the one I was looking for! I came out to find you.” (v.15)
  • You will listen to her talking about her bed (v.16)
  • You will entertain her words regarding, “have your fill of love until morning, and enjoying each other’s caresses” (v.18)
  • You will run the risk of her husband walking in you while you are having you fill of love (v.18 – 20)
  • You will be seduced by her pretty speech (v.21)
  • You will be enticed by her flattery (v.21)
  • You will be like a ox going to the slaughter (v.22)
  • You will be like a stag caught in a trap, awaiting the arrow that would pierce its heart (v.22)
  • You will be like a bird flying into a snare, little knowing it would cost his life (v.23)
  • You run the risk of being ruined (v.26)
  • You run the risk of being another victim of this immoral woman (v.26)
  • You will be on the road to the grave (v.27)
  • You have just enter the bedroom that is the den of death (v.27)

Lesson #4:  9 essentials that will help you with temptation 

  1. Follow God’s advice children (v.1)
  2. Always treasure God’s commands and live! (v.2)
  3. Obey and Guard God’s instruction as  you guard your own eyes (v.2)
  4. Tie God’s instructions on your fingers as a reminder (v.3)
  5. Write His instructions deep within your heart (v.3)
  6. Love wisdom like a sister (v.4)
  7. Make insight a beloved member of your family (v.4)
  8. Let the LORD’s instructions protect you from an affair with Lady Temptation (v.5)
  9. Let the LORD’s instructions keep you from listening to the flattery of Lady Temptation (v.5)

And of course we need to pray for godly strength and wisdom in dealing with this foe name temptation who is skillful in the art of seduction, pretty speech, and flattery.
