I Am the LORD thy God
The Israelites had just come from Egypt, a land of many idols and many gods Since each god represented a different aspect of life, it was common to worship many gods in order to get the maximum number of blessings
When God told his people to worship and believe in him, that wasn’t so hard for them–he was just one more god to add to the list
But when he said, “Thou shalt have no other gods before me,” that was hard for the people to accept
However, if they didn’t learn that the God who led them out of Egypt was the only true God, they could not be his people–no matter how faithfully they kept the other nine commandments**
1. Do you find that you just add God to your list an you just leave him there with the other things that you let occupy your time?
2. Is God just another god on your list of things to do or to worship alone with your thirst for fame, money, pleasure, and excitement?
3. Where does God rate in your life, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, or dead last? What does that look like when one looks into your everyday life?
